How the two mobile numbers this service texts are handled, and how to stop the messages.
Gust is a private family notification service run by one household. It follows an eleven-year-old's sailing dinghy out of Marina del Rey using a GPS tracker on the boat, and sends a small number of SMS messages to two members of his immediate family — his mother and his uncle — telling them when he has reached open water and when he is back at the dock and needs collecting.
It is not offered to the public. There is no sign-up form, no account, no customer list, and nothing is sold. This page exists because US mobile carriers require it before they will deliver messages from a ten-digit number.
Two mobile telephone numbers, given directly to the operator by the two people who receive the messages. Nothing else about them is stored — no name, no email, no address, no device identifiers, no analytics.
Separately, the boat's GPS positions are recorded by a self-hosted Traccar server so that the map on this site can draw where it has been. Those positions describe a boat, not a phone, and they are not linked to the recipients' numbers.
And when the pre-sail check on this site is completed, a record of it is filed on the site's own hosting: the date and time, the boat, the wind, gust and sea readings the page was showing at that moment, and the verdict it gave. It exists so that a habit of checking the conditions before going sailing leaves a trace that can be looked at later. It contains nothing about the person who did it and nothing about the recipients.
Mobile numbers are never shared. We do not sell, rent, lease, trade, or otherwise disclose mobile telephone numbers, or the consent to send SMS to them, to any third party, affiliate, marketer, data broker, or partner — for any purpose. No exceptions. The only party they are given to is Twilio, the messaging provider that transmits the message, and only for that transmission.
Message frequency. A maximum of four messages per sailing day — one when the pre-sail check is completed, and up to three about where the boat is — and typically fewer than fifteen messages per month in total. There are no messages on days when nobody sails.

To stop receiving messages, reply STOP to any
message. Reply HELP for help. Opting out is immediate and permanent
unless you ask to be added back.
There are two ways, and both are used. A recipient can text START to
+1 539 281 1092, the number these alerts are sent from, and
will get a confirmation reply back straight away. Or — which is how both current
recipients came to be on it — they asked the operator in person, and were told: the
boat's tracker can text you when Auguste is out past the breakwater and again when he is
back at the dock and needs collecting; it is up to three texts on a day he sails; message
and data rates may apply; and you can reply STOP at any time to stop them.
Nobody is added any other way. Consent is collected for this service alone and is never bought, shared, or carried over from anywhere else.
The boy's first name, whether he has completed his pre-sail check and what it told him, whether he is on the water or back at the dock, sometimes his speed, and a link to a private page showing his position on a map. Nothing about the recipient is included in any message.
The operator of this site, and nobody else. The position data lives on a private server; the mobile numbers live in one encrypted environment variable each at the hosting provider. There are no other administrators and no shared credentials.
Mobile numbers are kept for as long as the person wants the messages, and removed on request or on replying STOP. Position history is kept so that past sails can be looked at, and can be deleted on request.
The subject of the tracking is a child, and the service exists at the request of, and under the supervision of, his own parent. No child receives messages and no child's contact details are collected.
